This is El Principe Gitano singing "In the Ghetto"... No one understand what the hell he sings

  1. Well if you're not native to English, and you're learning the song basically phonetically, that's a really tough song to learn. So many words!

This looks like it was recorded maybe back in the seventies? If his audience is composed of people who basically don't understand English, I suppose it hardly matters. The point is the hook. In the ghetto. The Elvis overtones. Everybody gets that. Kind of fun to see how English sounds to untrained Italian (?) ears, though.

  2. Ha! its funny you say that Lucy, I was just talking with a British friend the other day about how foreign accents come across to others. Specifically, American accents to everyone else. My friend used adjectives like "loud" "deep-throat" Something about how Americans use there entire mouth as opposed to the English whom seem to to gather their sounds at the teeth. I still wonder how we (I) sound to a foreigner? Why is the French accent preferred or admired? Francois, got any thoughts? Or Swiss-German...is also said to be beautiful and I agree. Sorry if this is on the tangent side, I'm up late and have been sleep deprived since yesterday.

    P.S. This is hysterical Vicente
